What to Watch This Weekend | SNL with Dan Levy

SNL | Season 46 | Episode 11 | Dan Levy
Full episode available on Hulu and sketches available on YouTube

For anyone who loves SNL but has tuned out recently or over the last few years, you can come back now. Dan Levy hosted last week with musical guest, Phoebe Bridgers, and it was such a weird breath of fresh air.

The sketches were back to being weird and goofy. The cast seems to have found their groove. The season has a new intro for those who love the intros. The last group of feature players have graduated to main cast and there’s a handful of new feature players. And the comedy felt like it was geared directly at millennials, by millennials.

Phoebe's music was the calmest rock and perfect for the tone of the moment. Her performances were visually appealing. And, of course, Dan is a great performer so he was a great addition to the cast.

And let’s talk about the perfect marketing conversion.

Last weekend I had been scrolling on TikTok because I assumed there was nothing to watch anywhere else (which is insane, but not uncommon). I came across a small clip of Dan Levy talking Eugene Levy during his monologue.

“Oh yeah, I saw he was hosting this week,” I thought. So I pulled up YouTube to watch a clip. It was this clip:

Amazing. I shared on Facebook, which is something I rarely do because who cares about sharing stuff on Facebook? Everyone shares so much nonsense that it doesn’t seem like my voice makes a difference for the weird family scrapbook that it’s become.

I watched a few more clips before I decided to open up Hulu on our TV and watch the full episode. I had almost forgotten what the format was like. It’s so good. And it’s put together in a week, I know we all know that but think about what you get done in one week at work.

After watching the full episode, I started verbally recommending the episode to people and adding, “Because of this episode, I’ll definitely going to watch next week.”

I am a fan and viewer but had not watched a full episode in a while. I was on a social media platform looking for content and SNL had a social media team that has been utilizing these newer platforms. They put themselves where their audience was and from TikTok, I went to YouTube for full sketches, one of which I shared to my own audience on Facebook that probably trusts my opinion on content more than some person they don’t know that they follow on whatever social media app. It was a digital word-of-mouth marketing win. From YouTube, I went to Hulu for a full episode, which brought in ad revenue (however small the revenue from Hulu ads might be). And from the full episode, SNL gained a viewer who will go right to watching the full episode next week. They brought me back on board to digest their content the way they’re developing it.

And like, not to toot my own horn but I did write an article about the episode and it’s marketing conversion through social media to their target audience in a wildly successful blog. Sooooo… I mean, wins all around.

Any hoops. Please enjoy this delightful performance by Pheobe Bridgers before going to Hulu and watching SNL | Season 46 | Episode 11 | Dan Levy.
